Day To Day_Day Three

Call for Freedom of Information Act and Campus Press Freedom

In support of all the advocates’ call for President Benigno Aquino III to “openly” push the passing of the Freedom of Information Act (FoI) in his third State of the Nation Address (SoNA), Journalism  students of Bicol University College of Arts and Letters wore red and black ribbons earlier.

National Union of Journalists in the Philippines (NUJP) Secretary-General Rowena Caranza-Paraan said that the red symbolizes the absence of action in the passage of the FoI, and the black symbolizes all “grief over the murders of mediamen.”

Sadly though, the president failed to mention the FoI in his 90-minute long SoNa.

I also wore a green Campus Press Freedom stub. We tied white ribbons at the university gate.

Written: FOR A MATURE MEDIA SYSTEM! — BUDYONG

I wrote FOR A MATURE MEDIA SYSTEM because a campus newspaper and its staffwriters and artists would not be able to mature if they have obstacles for free speech. They should not be gagged so the whole studentry would be able to help their beloved institution.
